Boot Room boy: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea (Carroll the so-called enigma)

dreamstossedandblown-ynwa:

Intresting to say the least. With our season over and nothing left to play for but pride Liverpool turned up. Although against a weaked Chelsea side who seem to be confident enough to gamble the automatic Champions League spot for a go at the Winners play again job if they beat Bayern Munich….

Chelsea vs. Liverpool for FA Cup: Soccer Pick

sbrforum:

Liverpool and Chelsea; two Premier League sides with big cup ambitions (to distract from their below par league performances) meet in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“King” Kenny Dalglish will obviously be unhappy with the way his second reign as Liverpool manager is working out (in the league), but at least he has some silverware to shout about and the Scot was hardly backwards in coming forwards when he said, “There is an obsession with the Premier League simply because of what it holds for every club and the value financially for every club, but there is a satisfaction from winning a cup competition which you don’t get from finishing fifth or sixth in the league.”

Gotta be in it to win it (to get back in it)

Fernando TorresThe Chelsea Blues have the Champions League final on 19th May against Bayern Munich to look forward to, and that trophy is doubly important as it looks like their best chance of securing Champions League football next season. Chelsea are currently 25/1 to finish fourth. The Blues lost a massive six point game to Newcastle on Wednesday night, where they conceded two exceptional goals from Papiss Cisse (the second saw commentators reaching for the thesaurus for more ways to say “amazing”) and saw the Toon chalk up their first league victory at Stamford Bridge for over a quarter of a century.

That loss was Chelsea’s first in recent memory, and it was a doubly bitter blow, as that defeat meant Chelsea now have an uphill struggle to finish in the top four. Chelsea are five points behind third place Arsenal with six left to play for, plus Newcastle and Tottenham are four points ahead of the Blues in fourth and fifth place both on 65 points.

While Chelsea would love to win the FA Cup (who wouldn’t like a bit of shiny silverware in the cupboard?) they do know that should both Newcastle and Tottenham win either of their two remaining games, they would relegate Chelsea to a sixth place finish.

It really is a tale of 2 cups, as soccer odds makers list Chelsea as 7/4 underdogs for the Champions League, but they are a 3/5 soccer betting favourite to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Liverpool had another shameful performance of their own midweek when they went down 1-0 at home to Fulham. This season’s disappointments just roll on and on, as it now looks like the Scousers will record their lowest ever home points tally in Premier League history.

It really is all about the cup this weekend.

You might like to know that the last time that these sides met in a cup competition, Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners. That was in the Carling Cup last November (on their way to lifting it), and those of you wanting to add that score to your soccer picks will find that available at 16/1. Liverpool also played Chelsea in the league just nine days before that victory when they took them down 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, a repeat of that score is available at the shorter odds of 10/1.

It’s one of the many peculiarities of football, that after their next cup meeting Liverpool host Chelsea in the league, at time of press Liverpool are 11/8 to beat Chelsea in the league while Chelsea winning is at 7/4 and a draw is 9/4. Compare that to the FA Cup odds which have Chelsea winning at 7/5, Liverpool winning at 2/1 and a draw at 9/4.

Kop a load of that!

There is a huge piece of good news for Liverpool in that in their last four meetings with Chelsea they have been victorious every single time, what’s more they have stopped the Blues from scoring in three of those four occasions. To go back to the last time that Chelsea beat Liverpool you’d have to go back 2 years when a league game ended 2-0 in Chelsea’s favour back in May 2010.

I’m very tempted to say that in cup games league form can almost be discounted, but something that can’t be denied is that Liverpool have a habit of not scoring in the first half of FA Cup finals. You may be very interested to know that only two Liverpool players have managed first-half strikes in FA Cup finals (John Aldridge against Everton in 1989 and Djibril Cisse against West Ham United in 2006). Clean sheets have been problem recently, too. Liverpool have kept just one in their last eight Finals, that was against Sunderland in 1992.

This means that you should bet on either Chelsea leading at the break or the game being drawn at the 45 minute mark. The tastiest odds on the half-time/full-time results as far as I’m concerned are Chelsea winning both halves at 3/1, the game being drawn across the board at 4/1, then we’d see Liverpool winning both halves at 9/2, not that I’m putting any of Mrs. Richardson’s money on that, I’m splitting my half-time/full-time betting on a half-time draw and a Chelsea victory; and a half-time draw with Liverpool victory on the 90, both at 5/1.

Balls

While I feel that Chelsea have done nothing but let me down in recent weeks, (howsoever I bet when they play) my (crystal) balls tell me to expect a scrappy cup final, where Liverpool will grind out the win.

Prediction: 2-1 to Liverpool available at a very tempting 12/1

Liverpool 9-0 Southend – Official Youth Cup highlights (nondescriptchar-090312-1)

Official FATV highlights; Including Raheem Sterling’s five goals as well as a penalty from England U19 captain Conor Coady and strikes from Stephen Sama, Adam Morgan and Toni Silva. Five-goal Raheem Sterling proved to be the difference as Liverpool’s Academy side overwhelmed Southend United with a 9-0 FA Youth Cup Fifth Round victory at Anfield. Sterling was the stand-out performer as the Reds earned a Quarter-Final tie against either Manchester United or Newcastle United thanks to a comprehensive success on Merseyside. Despite that, the young Shrimpers kept going to the end, and were unfortunate not to record a goal of their own on the night. Blues had defeated Academy opposition in each of the previous two rounds, with the more recent victory against Derby County coming away from home at Pride Park, but they were unable to repeat that achievement as a Conor Coady penalty, headers from Stephen Sama and Adam Morgan and Toni Brito E Silva’s late strike were added to Sterling’s incredible personal haul.
